Qlusters Expands Executive Team
Today I’m happy to announce that I’ve accepted the CTO role at Qlusters.
PALO ALTO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb. 13, 2006–Qlusters, Inc., the leading provider of open source systems management software, today announced three key executive appointments: William Hurley as chief technology officer (CTO), Eran Cinamon as vice president of research and development, and Don Langley as vice president of sales for the Western region. The expansion of the management team will provide the technical and sales expertise required to drive the adoption of open source solutions that automate the data center, reduce annual data center management costs and increase data center resiliency.
“William, Eran and Don bring a diverse mix of technical and sales experience to Qlusters, furthering our ability to solve real world problems for organizations that are running their critical enterprise applications in data centers based on commodity servers,” said Ofer Shoshan, Qlusters’ founder and CEO. “From leading ground-breaking open source projects to conducting key development on enterprise utility computing and virtualization to building world-class sales teams to driving adoption of enterprise open source software, we have deep expertise to help drive ideal data center solutions that meet our customers’ specific needs.”
William Hurley joins Qlusters as CTO with deep experience in leading key open source projects and driving important technology innovation. Prior to joining Qlusters, Hurley co-founded Symbiot, the pioneering firm in the application of risk metrics to adaptive network security. As CTO, he founded the OpenSIMS project, the world’s first framework for collaborative “community centric security.” In his career, he has received the title of IBM Master Inventor — an IBM Pervasive Computing Award — and multiple awards for innovation from Apple Computer, including a 2004 Apple Design Award for an open source user interface. He holds eleven patents in the systems management, user interfaces, and network operations and security.
As Vice President of Research and Development, Eran Cinamon will be responsible for Qlusters research and development teams in Israel. Prior to joining Qlusters, he was director of software development for Voltaire, Inc., and also served in various software engineering positions at Vocaltec and SPL Israel. Eran earned his B.S. in computer engineering from Technion, Israel.
A 20-year technology sales veteran, Don Langley joins from Red Hat where he served as vice president of North American Sales and in strategic account management. Prior to joining Red Hat, he was vice president of North American Sales for Cygnus Solutions, (acquired by Red Hat), and served in a variety of sales management positions at Adaptec, STMicroelectronics and Motorola. Don received an M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Business and a B.S. in Engineering from Arizona State University.
I see this as the opportunity to change the very DNA of the systems management industry. It won’t be easy, but I think the OpenQRM project is going to set the bar for the emerging open source systems management movement.
