South Africa is taking a huge step towards embracing the future of technology! The country plans to improve the teaching of robotics and coding in public schools by establishing an Artificial Intelligence Institute. This move is set to prepare their youth for the rapidly evolving digital era and ensure that they are not left behind.
The AI Institute is being created in collaboration with higher learning institutions such as the Johannesburg Business School of the University of Johannesburg and the Tshwane University of Technology. The Department of Communications & Digital Technologies is also a co-founder. Their goal is to provide young South Africans with access to modern training, skill sets, and formal education to keep up with the fast-paced world of technology.
As a part of this initiative, the Department of Basic Education has introduced robotics and coding as school subjects in primary and high schools. Currently, learners in over a thousand schools are designing and producing robots for gaming and completing tasks they find tedious. Next year, these learners will compete in a National Robotics Development Challenge. This bold move by the South African government signifies their commitment to embracing the future and ensuring their youth are equipped with the skills needed for success in the technological and economic landscape of tomorrow.
