Bringing Quantum Computing Home to South by Southwest (SXSW) 2018
SXSW is kicking off the 2018 teaser season early by revealing of select keynotes and featured speakers for next year’s conference. So far the list includes:
- Barry Jenkins, academy award-winning writer and director (Moonlight, Medicine for Melancholy)
- Esther Perel, psychotherapist and best-selling author
- Yours truly
Based on the e-mails I’ve received, people are surprised. (Not sure why. It’s clear by now I’ll talk to anyone anywhere.) I’ll be discussing quantum computing, of course. A quantum computing keynote!
SXSW spotlights some of the industry’s most inspired thinkers, diverse visionaries, and change-makers who share forward-thinking ideas. So I couldn’t be more thrilled to be participating in the event and helping to spread the quantum computing love. I have a long history with the event, but this will be my first keynote. I’ve participated in events and moderated panels for years. I even hosted the IEEE SXSW party. But a keynote is definitely a big deal. A big beautiful deal. Huge.
ENDLESS IMPOSSIBILITIES
My plan is to discuss the release of my upcoming book, “Endless Impossibilities: Understanding and Preparing for the Coming Age of Quantum Computing.” I’ll share more details about the book soon. Given the feedback I’ve received so far, I think you’re going to like it. Though I’ve written books before, most of them have been technical “how-tos.” This will be my first trade book. It will be readable in a sitting. The goal is for anyone interested in quantum computing to spend a few hours with the book and walk away with a grasp of the science behind it, most importantly, the possible future applications of this technology.
I don’t want to give too much away yet. If you want to hear it all first hand, head over to SXSW.com and register for the event. See you there.
